“Did ya hear?” Flack asked Danny as he walked into the breakroom one morning, looking desperately in need of a cup of coffee.
“Hear what? I just got here,” Danny sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“Peluso’s got a new girl.”
“I’m well aware of that,” he said, before taking a cautious sip of the coffee, “Chris told me last night.”
“Sucks to be you, man,” Flack said with a smirk.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Everyone and their mother knows you have a thing for Monroe,” Flack replied, “And now she’s seeing another guy. It sucks.”
“She’ll come to her senses in a week,” Danny replied, “Peluso ain’t her type.”
“And you are?” Flack said skeptically, “Look, I’ve heard that they’ve been going out for a few months now. So you’re either going to have to deal with it, or live in denial. And it would be better for the rest of us, especially Lindsay, if you chose the former.”
“I’m not in denial, Flack,” he replied, taking another sip of his coffee before turning to head out, “I’m just—not so sure that they’re right for each other. That’s all.”
Flack watched him leave, before shaking his head, “Yeah. He’s in denial.”

“So this thing—you and Peluso,” Danny began as they were getting onto the elevator, “It pretty serious?”
“How’d you find out?” she said, confused.
“Christina Finn,” he replied, “She came by askin’ about you, and she told me.”
“Yeah,” Lindsay nodded, before turning away from him to the elevator doors, “At this point I’d say it’s pretty serious.”
“Was it your idea or his?”
“What idea?” she frowned.
“You two getting together.”
“We both agreed on it,” Lindsay replied, rolling her eyes, “Like adults usually do.”
“Now, that’s uncalled for,” Danny said, and she turned to face him.
“Danny, you’re acting like a teenager who just found out the girl of his dreams is dating someone else,” Lindsay sighed, “What’s going on between Brian and I a, is none of your business, and b, I can handle without you looking over my shoulder. I’m a big girl.”
“You don’t know him like I do,” Danny protested, “He has ways of manipulating people into getting what he wants.”
“This isn’t just about what he wants!” Lindsay protested fixing him with a glare, “This is about what I want too.”
“You want him?” Danny said, “The same way that he does?”
“Yes,” Lindsay replied, “Love, lust, whatever this is—I want it. And you don’t have a say in what goes on between the two of us.”
“But Lindsay—”
“Danny—”
“Would you just let me finish?”
“No, Danny, just stop,” she said, giving him a look, “There’s nothing there, alright? Never was. I’m with Brian now.” There was the ding! of the elevator doors opening and she left, backing out the door. “I’m sorry.”
“So am I,” Danny muttered, watching her as she left.
