Part 1 | Part 2
Calleigh was waiting on her autopsy results from Alexx, listening as she went over the Robertson autopsies with Natailia. She was the only one not on the case, dealing with other smaller cases that popped up, while the majority of the team was focused on the larger case. If Dean’s gut was right, and there was something off with the house, it would show up in the autopsy.
“These bodies were something else,” Alexx was telling her, "I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“What was the COD?” the other woman asked and Alexx frowned.
“I’m gonna say exsanguination,” Alexx sighed, “But the cause is where it gets weird. The liver and intestines were gone.”
“Gone?” Natalia said, and Calleigh frowned slightly. Killer could have cut them out to sell them on the black market, but the CSIs would have noted something like that at the scene. Something was off.
“Gone,” Alexx repeated.
“Well, did the killer cut them out? We could be dealing with an organ harvester—”
“The point of exit was through the rectum.” Calleigh’s eyes closed, and she nodded. There the something off was.
“Excuse me,” Calleigh sighed,” Sorry for poking in like this, but they left the body through the rectum? You can confirm that?”
“Without a doubt,” Alexx sighed.
“I hate to ask,” Calleigh sighed, “But when did that occur? Can you confirm that?”
“Ante mortem,” Alexx nodded, and now there was no doubt in her mind that Dean had been right. She knew exactly what they were dealing with, and when Dean found out that he was right, she knew that she was never going to hear the end of it.
“I have to go make a phone call,” she sighed, before backing out of the morgue and reaching into her pocket for her phone. Natalia turned and followed her for a second.
“Why such an interest in our case?” she asked, giving the shorter woman a look.
“I think I know what you may be dealing with,” Calleigh sighed.
“You’ve seen this guy’s work before?” Natalia frowned.
“Not exactly,” she sighed, “Let me just make a few phone calls, and then I’ll fill everyone in, alright.”
“OK,” Natalia sighed, before turning and heading back to autopsy. Something was up, but she was still trying to wrap her head around what the three of them had just discussed, so she wasn’t going to worry about it too much—at least not right away.

Eric and Ryan were arriving back at the crimelab, when suddenly Ryan grabbed Eric’s arm and pulled him to a stop.
“What?” the taller man frowned, and Ryan nodded to a car sitting in the parking lot.
“Recognize that?” he asked with a smirk. A grin stretched across the other man’s face and he nodded.
“Sixty-seven Impala,” Eric said, “That really is a nice car.”
“Yeah, it is,” Ryan said, “Too bad we have to impound it.”

“I need a last name, sir,” the receptionist said to Sam, and the man’s face tightened in worry. Dean had never told him her last name, only that her first name was Calleigh, and he didn’t have her cell phone number to call her himself, so the only thing he could do was go down to the crimelab and try to explain this to her.
“I—I don’t know her last name, she was only introduced to me as Calleigh,” he said.
“I’m sorry sir, I can’t page her without a last name,” the receptionist said, and Sam buried his face in his hands. They were so screwed. He was about to get ready and see if he could sneak back without anyone noticing when he heard a familiar voice over his shoulder.
“Sam! Just the person I’m looking to see.” He turned and saw Calleigh walking towards him, a smile on her face. “I think I might know what you’re dealing with.”
“Calleigh, before we get into what’s going on, what is your last name?” Sam sighed, “For future reference.”
“Duquesne,” she said with a smile, before continuing, “Where’s Dean?”
“He’s—he’s not gonna make it,” Sam replied.
“He let you drive his car here without him in it?” Calleigh frowned, “He must trust you.”
“Well, he didn’t have much of a choice,” Sam sighed.
“Why isn’t he picking up his phone?” she asked.
“That’s kind of why I’m here,” Sam said, “Now, I know that you didn’t give us the go-ahead and—” He stopped when the look on Calleigh’s face changed from one of confusion to one of annoyance.
“You went to the crime scene, didn’t you?”
“Yes, we did.”
“And Dean got caught?”
“And Dean got caught.”
“Well, this is just perfect,” Calleigh sighed.
“Yeah,” Sam nodded, “This wasn’t one of his more brilliant ideas.”
“Excuse me!” Ryan’s voice echoed over the lobby. They all turned to face him and Eric, and he was jerking his thumb out into the parking lot, “Anyone here the owner of the sixty-seven Impala sitting in the parking lot?”
Sam didn’t say anything, just watched nervously, wondering what was going to happen if someone said yes.
“No?” Ryan sighed, an amused look on his face.
“Well, that’s too bad,” Eric replied, “It’s getting impounded.”
A panicked look crossed Sam’s face, and he turned back to Calleigh. “CanyoudosomethingDeanisgoingto kill me!” he rambled and Calleigh shook her head.
“Hey, Eric, wait!” she said, jogging over to them, “I know who owns the car.”
“Really?” Ryan frowned, “How so?”
“I’ve had a couple overzealous forensic students tailing me for the past few days,” Calleigh sighed, “I’ve been only dealing with B and Es and more minor stuff, and I guess they just wanted to see a real murder.”
“Guy at the scene said that he was having an affair with the mother and was there to get his stuff back,” Ryan replied, studying Calleigh sharply.
“An overzealous forensic student with a pushy big brother is not unheard of, Ryan,” Calleigh replied, starting to feel that sick feeling in the pit of her stomach for lying to her coworkers.
“Is your student aware of the fact that he compromised the scene of a murder, and that if this goes to court some of the evidence could get thrown out because of this?” Eric asked, and she shook her head.
“I don’t think it’s going to court,” Calleigh shook her head, “I think your perp is a what, an animal, not a who.”
“How do you know that?”
“I was downstairs when Alexx was giving the autopsy notes to Natalia,” she sighed, “It’s a very rare animal, but it is an animal nonetheless.”
Both men studied her, but didn’t say anything. She knew she was going to be giving them a lot to swallow, but she hoped that they were still going to trust her with this.
“You want permission to be on the scene to go find it?” Eric asked.
“More or less,” Calleigh replied, “The grounds at least. I’ll even make you a deal for it.”
“What kind of deal?” Ryan replied.
“Hold the big brother as collateral,” Calleigh sighed, “I’m right, you let him go. I’m wrong, book him for evidence tampering.”
“What about the car?” Eric smirked.
“Don’t impound the car,” she said sweetly, “The guy’s pretty protective of it, and his little brother is pretty scared of him.”
Eric took a deep breath before nodding his agreement, “I’ll see if I can make a bit of progress on your case while you’re working on ours.”
“Thanks,” Calleigh nodded. Ryan hesitated a bit longer before agreeing.
“For his brother’s sake, you better be right.”
Calleigh nodded and watched the two men walk away before going back over to Sam.
“They gonna impound the car?” Sam asked, and she shook her head.
“No. They’re not.”
“Thank God,” Sam whispered, “They gonna let Dean go?”
“Not gonna do that either.”
“Why not?”
“He’s collateral,” Calleigh sighed, “If their killer is what I think it is, I let them go, if it isn’t, they book him for evidence tampering.”
“You think you know what it is.”
“Yup,” she nodded, “And I’m gonna need your help to catch it. Are you in?”
“Do I have a choice?”
“Not really,” she said, “But I figure it’s always nice to ask.”
Sam grinned before starting to follow her out the door, “So what are we dealing with?”
“I’ll tell you about it in the car,” she said.
“We going back to the scene?”
“Eventually but we have to make a quick stop first. We’re gonna need a few supplies.”
“Dean and I are fully stocked on salt, holy water, silver, all that,” Sam replied, and Calleigh gave him a smile.
“Not those kinds of supplies.”
Sam stopped as they reached the doorway, and frowned slightly, “What do we need then?”
“Cucumbers,” she replied simply, before heading out the door ahead of him.
