Peluso hated the end of the trial the most. They couldn’t just rip it off fast like a band-aid, they had to drag it out and make it last. Prolong the pain, if that was the case. He glanced slightly over his shoulder, and saw Mac, Danny, Lindsay, Christina and Potter standing against the back of one side of the courtroom, while he knew that Cabot, Stella and Steele were standing on the other. There were all here to see what was going to happen, and Williams was dragging this out like it was the greatest pleasure of her life.
“Madam—” she began, but stopped when the soft creak of the courtroom door was opening. Everyone turned and saw Flack and Jess sneak in together, and Williams rolled her eyes before starting again, “Madam Foreperson, have you reached a verdict?”
“We have, your honor.”
“Will the defendant please rise?”
Everyone watched as Pratt and Sharp stood, adjusting their suits and waited for the for the verdict to be read.
“In the matter of the State of New York versus Darrell Pratt, Junior, on the first count of the indictment, murder in the first degree, how do you find?”
“We find the defendant, Darrell Pratt, Junior—guilty.”
“So say you one?” The foreperson nodded. “So say you all?” The foreperson nodded again.
“The defendant will be remanded into the custody of the state pending sentencing. Court is adjourned.”
Peluso slumped against the back of his seat, “I can’t believe we did it.”
“I just can’t believe it’s over,” Billy replied, “And we actually won.” The two men followed the crowd out, and the same salt-and-peppered haired man from the arraignment stepped out in front of them.
“Mr. Desmond, Mr. Peluso,” he said, shaking each of their hands with a smile on his face, “Thank you. For—for what you did for my girl.”
“You’re very welcome, Mr. Burn,” Billy replied, “But it was the least we could have done.”

“I’m holding you to that,” Brian said, collapsing on the couch of his apartment as Christina came in behind him.
“Holding me to what?” she asked.
“Reminding me never to take a case with Jackson Sharp again.”
“Oh,” she said, recognition crossing her face as she crawled onto the couch so that she was lying on top of him, “But you won.”
“I did win,” he sighed.
“I would think you would’ve been happier,” she commented, and he shrugged.
“I dunno,” he sighed, “I just wish we didn’t have to lose Aiden to do it.”
“Me too,” she said, “I guess this makes it more of a bittersweet victory, huh?”
“Yeah,” he nodded, “Guess so.”
They were silent for a moment, and Christina leaned forward, resting her head on his chest. He tightened his arms around her, before whispering in her ear.
“I’m still gonna hold you to that.”
