I don’t feel like dancin’
When the old Joanna plays
My heart could take a chance
But my two feet can’t find a way
You think that I could muster up a little soft, shoop devil sway
But I don’t feel like dancin’
No sir, no dancin’ today.

“Hey, Linds,” he said, sticking his head out of the bathroom, a concerned look on his face, “Look, if you’re not feeling up to this—you don’t have to deal with my family tonight.”
“No, Don, it’s fine,” Lindsay replied. She was sitting on the edge of his bed, putting on her earrings as she spoke, “I’m fine. This—is probably a good idea. I need a distraction.” He walked over to her and crouched down in front of her, looking her in the eye.
“But your dad—” he began, and she shook her head before adjusting the lapels on his jacket.
“I’m going to relax, and not think about what’s going on with my dad,” she sighed, settling the jacket better on his shoulders and then moving on to adjust the knot of his tie, “We’re going to go, and we’re going to have a good time, and that will be that.”
“Lindsay?” he said, taking her wrists in his hands.
“Yeah.”
“If you tighten that knot any more, I’m not going to be able to breathe,” he sighed, gently pulling her hands away from him. A shy smile crossed her face and she looked down at his hands.
“Sorry.”
He gave her a small smile before tilting her head up to look at him. “You sure you wanna do this?”
“I’m sure,” she whispered, “I’m fine.”
“OK,” he sighed, before getting up, and taking her hand, “Let’s go.”

Don and Lindsay had wound up at a table with his parents, Maria and her family, Evelyn, and his aunt and uncle. Dinner had be interesting, considering the wedding had been that of a distant cousin that none of them really knew that well, so when Captain Flack had been asked to give a speech and found himself without much to say, they were all trying very hard not to laugh at they result. Once the dance floor opened, things loosened up a bit, and the table had dispersed to mix and mingle.
Don and Lindsay were talking with Maria, when a faster more upbeat song started to play. “C’mon, Donnie,” she grinned, “Dance with me.”
“Ya mind, Linds?” he asked, and she shook her head.
“Go ahead.” She watched as Don moved to the floor with Maria, and then turned as the woman’s husband gave her a smile.
“How bout you and me, Lindsay?” Mark gave her a smile, “My date stole your date.”
She gave him a smile, but shook her head, “Sorry, Mark. My heart’s just not in it tonight.”
“Everything alright?”
“Just some family stuff,” she sighed, “That I’m trying not to think about.”
“If you trying not to think about it, then its not helping that you’re sitting here,” he replied, “C’mon country girl, you’ll feel better once you start dancing.”
She looked up at the kind of dancing they were doing, and shook her head, “Oh, I don’t know that dance.”
“Lindsay,” he said, taking her hand and pulling her towards the floor, “Just relax and go with it. Don’t tell my wife but—” He leaned closer and whispered in her ear, “—I have no rhythm.” Lindsay laughed, and he gave her a grin, “So yes—you will not be the only one making an ass out of yourself, so c’mon, let’s go.”
“You drive a hard bargain.”
“How do you think I got Maria to marry me?” he said with a smirk, as he pulled her onto the floor.
“Oh no,” Maria sighed, “Your girlfriend’s done for.”
“Whatdaya mean?” Don replied as he spun Maria around so that they were facing the opposite direction.
“Mark’s dragged her to the dance floor,” she sighed, “You should go save her.”
“What’s wrong with Mark?” he frowned.
“Don, Mark can’t dance.”
“He can’t?” Don frowned, and then he started to watch them as they started to dance. And Mark really was just awful. But he saw the way Lindsay laughed as he spun her about the floor, and knew that her mind was farthest from what was bothering her at this point, and he was grateful for that.
“As I said, go save her.”
“No,” he shook his head, “I think it’s doing her some good.” The music started to slow, and Mark spun Lindsay one last time, before giving her a smile.
“It was fun, but I’m gonna go steal my wife back from your boyfriend now,” he replied, and she nodded with a smile, before giving his hand a squeeze.
“Thanks, Mark.”
“Anytime.” She started to head back to the table, when she felt someone catch her wrist.
“Not so fast,” Don’s voice came from behind her, “My turn.”
His arms wrapped around her waist and her hands slid up against his chest as they started to sway to the music, her fingers straying over the buttons of his shirt. “Have fun with Mark?” he asked, and she grinned.
“Yeah,” she nodded before looking up at him, “I’m glad I came tonight, Don. This was what I needed.”
“Good,” he murmured, before leaning in to give her a soft kiss, “It’s what I’m here for.”

Something that I really liked about this fic was the whole subtext with Lindsay's dad. You didn't really know what was going on, just as in the show. And the fact that while on the outside [at the wedding] it would look like Lindsay was having a horrible time being with someone who danced terribly, Flack knew that it was good for her because she was having a good time... Guh. I just loved it all.
“Good,” he murmured, before leaning in to give her a soft kiss, “It’s what I’m here for.”
I think that line summed up their relationship. You know, the fact that he just wants to fix her and to help to make her happy. To just love her.

i really loved writing this for you. this series had been practically drowning in angst and i needed a fluffy moment for them before i became too depressed.
and i agree. flack just wants her to be happy, and give her what she needs.
