Author:
iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Don Flack, Danny Messer, mentions of Stella Bonasera, Lindsay Monroe, and Aiden Burn
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: Danny and Flack debate the pros and cons of the various women in their life.
Author's Note: Happy (early) birthday,
spygurl121! She requested a fic where Danny and Flack are at a bar snarking about women. Therefore, this is a lot of dialouge, and not a lot of action, but hopefully its still a fun read.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI:NY. They're owned by CBS.
Danny tried to ignore the smirk on Flack’s face as he returned to his seat next to his friend in the bar. “Don’t even start with me, Flack.”
“Shot down again, Messer?” Flack asked.
“Didn’t I tell you not to start with me?”
“I’m choosing to ignore you. What was the reason this time? You ‘not her type?’” He drew air quotes around the last few words, an amused grin on his face.
“Boyfriend.”
“Why are you even looking anyway? Don’t you have a girlfriend?”
“Nah. Haven’t had one for a while.”
“Really? What happened to whatserface? Sandy—Angie—Mandy—”
“Cindy, Flack?”
Flack snapped his fingers and pointed back at his friend. “That’s it! Cindy. What happened to her?”
“She ended it because I put my job over ‘everything we had together.’ She was very whiney and crying, and it just wasn’t pretty.”
“How long were you with her?”
“Two months, maybe?” he hesitated for a second, thinking about it, “Yeah, it was two months because she was angry with me for forgetting the two month anniversary, and then getting called in to work, because she had planned, and I quote, ‘a special romantic evening together.’”
“All for two months?”
“Yup,” Danny sighed, before taking a sip from the drink in front of him. “Why me? Why do I have to attract all the psychos?”
“Why do you have to attract all the psychos? You do remember Cara, don’t you?”
“Cara? Was that the one who hit McCallahan in the face with a curling iron, when she really was aiming for you?”
“That would be her.”
“You’re right. You attract psychos too. Why did you break up with her again?”
“Because she proposed and I said no.”
“Something wrong with that? Aside from the fact that you don’t want to get married.”
“Well, a) she was the one who proposed. Down on one knee and everything. B) we’d only been dating four months.”
“Oh yeah. Did she do it in front of McCallahan?”
“No.”
“Then how did she—”
“McCallahan was giving me a ride somewhere right after it happened, and I opened the door for him, she threw the curling iron at the back of my head, missed me, and hit him.”
“That’s right.”
“Women.”
“Tell me about it.”
“I just don’t get them. They expect every little event is a damn holiday. Or for you to have the mind of an elephant.”
“Cindy asked me once if I remembered exactly what she was wearing the moment we met. When I told her no she burst into tears, asking how could we grow to share our life together if I didn’t treasure the little things about our relationship.”
“And it took you two months to end it with this woman?”
“It took me almost an hour to calm her down.”
“What’d you do?”
“Fed her some line about how I was too busy paying attention to her smile or some bullshit like that.” He paused for a second as a flash of blond hair caught his view. “Over there—tall, blond. Beautiful.”
“Out of your league, Messer. She’d never give you the time o’ day.”
“I’ll be right back.”
“Bet your ass you will.” Flack watched as he walked over had a brief conversation with the other woman, and a grin crossed his face as another dark haired woman came over and began to engage the blond in a heated kiss. He chuckled over the look that crossed Danny’s face, and watched as his friend was introduced to the woman’s girlfriend, and then Danny excused himself, and came back over to where Flack was sitting, and Flack played dumb.
“What was the excuse this time?”
“Lesbian.”
“You just keep pickin’ winners, dontcha Messer?”
“Shut the hell up.”
“I did warn you.”
“You said she was out of my league, not that she liked women.”
“Isn’t that the same thing?”
Danny smacked Flack upside the head, before downing another drink and signaling for another. “Sometimes if I lay it on thick enough, I can even talk a woman who’s out of my league into taking a chance.”
“Like the way you tried to talk Aiden into it?”
“Let’s not even go there, Flack. Aiden—was a whole other story.”
“Don’t I know it. What I don’t understand—is how you went from Aiden—to Monroe.”
Danny groaned, “Can we please not talk about Montana?”
“Now, let’s just get this clear,” Flack sighed, shifting in his seat so that he was looking at his friend, “I have nothing against Monroe. She—just doesn’t seem your type.”
“Because she’s not crazy?” Danny smirked.
“I wouldn’t put it past her,” Flack commented, “I maintain the idea that every woman has an inner-crazy.” Danny chuckled at that, but waited for his friend to continue. “She’s just too—nice.”
“Too nice?”
“She puts up with too much. You usually go for the girls with a little fight in ‘em. You know Aiden would have kicked your ass if you even thought about calling her Brooklyn.”
“All that proves is that Aiden and Lindsay are too very different people,” Danny replied, “Besides—I see the way you get all googly-eyed over Stella, so you really can’t talk.”
“Danny,” Flack began, “Stella is a beautiful, sexy, amazing woman, who no man in his right mind wouldn’t ogle. Just subtly and discreetly, because if she catches you doing it, she’s going to kill you.”
Danny laughed, “That is very true.” Again, something caught his eye across the bar, and he pat Flack on the shoulder before leaving, “Be right back.”
Flack just shook his head, and downing the rest of his drink. Danny was gone for a while, and Flack ordered another drink and finished it before the other man returned, looking slightly wet.
“Lesbian or boyfriend?”
“Friend of Cindy’s.”
Flack winced, “Ouch.”
“Told me off for breaking her friends heart, and asked me how I expected to maintain a relationship if I couldn’t remember the big celebrations.”
Flack smirked, “What’d you tell her?”
“That we had only been dating two months, and I wasn’t aware there were any big celebrations in the first two months.”
“And what’d she say?”
“Well, then she threw her drink in my face, called me an asshole, and stormed off back to her table.” He shook his head, before downing another drink, and shaking his head, “Women.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Why aren’t you out there trying to get a girl to go home with you?”
“Are you kidding me?” Flack said, giving him a look, “Why go out and get shot down myself, when I have so much more fun watching it happen to you?”
“Thanks, Flack,” Danny said dryly, “Good to know I have a friend like you.”
“Anytime, Danno,” Flack replied, patting Danny on the back, “Anytime.”

Very true. Flack, you're a smart man.
“Are you kidding me?” Flack said, giving him a look, “Why go out and get shot down myself, when I have so much more fun watching it happen to you?”
“Thanks, Flack,” Danny said dryly, “Good to know I have a friend like you.”
I could hear them saying that. And picture the look on Flack's face as well. I am highly amused.

i love dialouge so much more than i do action, so pieces like this are always more fun for me to write.
