polkadotsnplaid, who asked for an CSI:NY/L&O crossover. Granted, I haven't seen all of the episodes with Nina, so I'm not sure if her characterization is perfect, but I've got a basic idea, and this is basically the way I write her over at
lawandorder_siu.

Nina knew everyone was staring at her as she dropped her stuff down on her new desk. And she knew it wasn’t because she was the new girl. She had hoped that she only was going to get that kind of crap regarding her promotion from the 2-7—after all, she had been a detective for a while now—but apparently, she was wrong. Cops were going to keep being petty about the circumstances regarding her promotion, no matter where she was, and while she knew that the best she could do would be to suck it up and deal with it—she hated the fact that she was going to have to go through the same thing all over again.
She had basically gotten a ‘Dear John’ speech from the Lieu—well, a ‘Dear John’ letter from Van Buren on Green’s behalf. Apparently, it wasn’t her, it was him. They just weren’t clicking as partners, and he felt her needs would be better served elsewhere. And of course, they couldn’t keep her in the 2-7, so off to the crime lab she was sent, ready to become more of an errand girl than a detective. And for right now, there was no point in trying to fight it—she was too green to argue with a senior detective—so as she had said before, just suck it up and take it.
Now, though, everyone was staring at her, and the whispering was starting again and she wanted to just crawl into a hole and disappear, but apparently that wasn’t an option. Because no sooner had she started unpacking that a uniform came up to her, shoving a piece of paper into her hand.
“You got a call.”
“Already?” she frowned, taking the paper from him.
“Crime doesn’t sleep,” the uniform sniped. “And you better get moving. Taylor hates it when the CSIs beat the plainclothes to the scene.”
Nina sighed heavily before shoving the box with her stuff under the desk and walking out of the precinct, ready to go out and do her job.

Nina was just wrapping up the talk with the last witness when the CSIs arrived. She excused herself quickly before turning back to face them. When she saw the grin on Danny’s face, she had to roll her eyes. “Don’t start with me, Messer.”
“Detective Beauty Queen,” he said, clearly ignoring her. “I didn’t know you were working on my side of town.”
“Just transferred in,” she replied. “Aren’t you more interested in the vic than what I’m doing here?”
“No,” Danny said with a smile. “Unless there’s something interesting about the vic.”
“How ‘bout the fact that he’s dead for starters?” she suggested, and Danny just gave her a grin, as he crouched down next to the body.
“So what have we got?”
“Vic’s name is Candice Wilmer. Boyfriend came home and found her after his gig last night, said he hadn’t seen her since this morning. According to the neighbors, they had had a bit of a fight earlier in the day, so I’m going to check and see if his story checks out.”
“Sounds good,” he said as he started to examine the body. The slim brunette had two gun shot wounds to the chest, and the case seemed pretty straight forward—almost too straightforward. Nina started to look around when she realized that Danny was the only CSI to arrive on the scene.
“Is anyone else coming?”
“Everyone was on a triple homicide up in the Bronx,” Danny replied, shifting to study the wounds on the vic. “I was the only one they could spare to take care o’ this.”
“So it’s just going to be me and you,” she said slowly. “For the whole case.”
“Yup,” Danny said, turning back to her with that shit-eating grin he knew she hated. “That gonna be a problem, Cassady?”
“No,” she said slowly, letting out an inward groan. “No problem at all.”
“Good,” he said, before turning back to the body. “I need you to help me find the bullets. We got ourselves a through-and-through.”
“Fantastic,” she said dryly, before taking the gloves Danny handed her, and he just grinned back at her.
“Welcome the team, Cassady.”
