I went to the computer lab on campus to work on my paper, and had about half of the paper done, ready to go, when the fuckin' thing crashed on me. And yes, I had been saving to the hard drive, but apparently every time it reboots? Wipes whatever files were saved to the hard disk. So now I'm right back to where I was when I started, and although I may have a better idea of what I actually want to say, I now have to write ten pages in an hour.

Yeah. Not going to happen.

I've e-mailed my professor, explaining the situation and telling her that I would get it to her by the end of the day, but in time for class? Not so much. She seems pretty understanding and hopefully it'll all pan out, but can I emphasize enough how much this really fucking sucks?

And I actually liked what I was writing too.

Not OK. My school used to do stupid crap like that too. So I didn't use the computer labs....I still had to pay the god damned "Technology Fee" though. I have a separate rant about that.

Oh no! I had that happen to me at home. I had saved something on my drive at school and when I logged in to complete the paper at home, the programs were incompatible. I had to retype the whole freaking paper. 6 hours before it was due.

Dang that sucks. I got to the point where whenever I would save a paper I was writing, I would also print. It saved me a couple of times.

The IT department does that on purpose (the wiping the hard drive on reboot)

Next time you're in a lab, go to Google Docs (http://docs.google.com) to write it. It will save it online. It's a generic word processor, and/or you can upload all kinds of docs. That's what I use to write my NaNoWriMo at work.
