You fold his hands, you smooth his tie
You gently lift his chin
Were you really so blind, and unkind to him?
Can’t help the urge to touch, to kiss,
To hold him once again
Now to close his eyes, never open them

When the last day came around, Dean took off like a bat outta hell. Not that Bobby had expected anything else. Dean knew that Sam would fight to the death to try and save his brother from the hellhounds, and Dean wasn’t going to let that happen. He wasn’t going to die, only to have his brother die with him. And waking up to find both Dean and the Impala gone was what had Bobby getting a desperate three AM phone call from Sam, panicking about the fact that he couldn’t find his brother.

It was hard tracking Dean down. Harder than even Bobby had anticipated. For all their ways of tracking people down, Dean beat every one of them, guaranteeing that they wouldn’t find him until it was too late for them to do anything about it. He wasn’t going to let them take anyone else down with him—he had made the deal, and he was going to pay the price for it whether Sam, or anyone else for that matter, liked it or not. In fact, Dean was so good, that it wasn’t until the day after that he peeked onto their radar in the worst way.

“Yeah,” Bobby said quickly as he answered the phone.

“Bobby, it’s Calleigh.” Calleigh didn’t sound like her usual cheery self. In fact, by the amount of pain in her voice, Bobby knew what it was about before she even got to it.

“When’d they find him?”

Sam perked up at that, but not in a happy way. He just waited patiently for Bobby to talk to him, waiting and silently praying that the news was going to be good.

“About six AM this morning,” she said softly. “They need—they need Sam to come down and claim the body.”

Bobby glanced over at him. “Can’t you—?”

“Not legally. And if he wants—” Calleigh voice cut off for a minute, and he could almost picture her trying to compose herself. “—if he wants to bury Dean like he’s supposed to, Sam has to come claim him himself.”

“Alright, well—we’ll figure somethin’ out,” Bobby sighed. “I don’t think he’s going to be in any shape.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” Calleigh nodded. “He’s in the Miami Dade morgue—ready to be claimed whenever you’re ready.”

“I’ll let Sam know.”

After that he hung up, and glanced over. Sam wasn’t looking at him anymore, his eyes were angled out the window towards the scenery whipping past him on the side of the road. “Who was it?”

“Calleigh.”

“When?”

“Early this morning,” Bobby began slowly, and Sam looked over at him, concerned.

“Can I see him?”

“They need someone to go claim the body,” he said gently. “I was going to do it.”

“I’ll do it.”

“Sam, you don’t—”

“He’s my brother, Bobby,” Sam said, turning his eyes back to the road again. “I’ll do it.”

***

It was a few days before they finally laid Dean to rest. Sam refused to have Bobby go to the morgue with him, determined to do this one his own. Once the body was signed over to him, they took it out into the woods along the Florida highway, setting up the pyre deep enough into the woods not to draw any attention. It was just the three of them: Sam, Bobby, and Calleigh. Once it was lit, they all stood back and just watched as the body leapt into flames.

Bobby watched the other two, searching their faces that for some sign that they were going to be alright, but for right now there seemed to just be too much pain. He had seen the tears in Sam’s eyes when he came out of the morgue after identifying the body, and he saw the way Calleigh was with the body when she was placing it on the pyre—how gentle she was with him. He knew that he had called Dean an idiot multiple times over of this deal, but he knew how Dean was thinking.

He didn’t think he could be the strong one. He knew there were people that loved him, but they would be okay. He thought that he couldn’t make it if he had lost one of the last ties to this world that he had. He thought that he was doing a good thing, bringing Sam back, making sure that Sam survived. Sam would make it—Dean was convinced that he wouldn’t.

Bobby took a deep breath, and watched the two people in front of them, seeing them in their grief and agony, and wondered if Dean was actually right. Bobby didn’t think Sam was ever going to recover from a blow like this. He’d live, but he’d never live like he was. In Dean’s mindset—at least he would be breathing.

Bobby wondered which was better. Sam being dead, or Sam living but with a huge piece of himself gone. And Bobby couldn’t say for sure that he knew.

I really loved this. It was very powerful.

I'm glad you liked it.

Is it really bad that I can't stop killing Dean when I write crossovers with Miami?

[identity profile] just-ruth.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Very painful, good job on Bobby's point of view.

No, I actually rather enjoy it. But it would be interesting if you killed Sam or Calleigh. I'd love to see you find some way to kill someone like Stetler, though. That would be an interesting fic.

Hee--I'll keep that in mind.

Although -- Stetler's been less aggravating for me this season. I don't know if it's just all the DRAMA *with big flashing letters* that has been going around lately, but it's making Stetler look less asshole like.

Still don't like him though.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

Yeah, Stetler seems almost human this season. It's...weird. Maybe he's posessed or something.

Aw; damn. That hurt. I sure hope it won't end like this. *sniffles*

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, me too.

I just have way too much fun killing people.

I'm glad you liked it.

LOL -- maybe.

*sniffles* Well done. Dose this mean no more Calliegh/Dean?. I hope this isn't the end of those stories!
Also I fianlly added you as friend

Oh, no -- there's still plenty where this came from. I kill Dean quite frequently with this crossover, I've found.

I'm glad you liked it.

And welcome to the crack den.

Oh I guess this was my first dean death fic here - I'll be better prepared next time :)
Oh and glad to be here.
