Rating: FRT
Characters: Greg House, Michaela Shea (OC)
house_fest Prompt: 52. Episode 2.17 – All In, canonizes the fact that Chase was not House’s first Duckling. Now, one of the previous ducklings is back for a reunion- how does it go?
Content Warning: Spoilers for "Human Error."
Summary: One of House's former fellows comes back for a visit.
Author's Note: I originally wasn't going to take this route, but the finale--in fact, I wasn't going to involve House at all, but this seemed to work better than my original idea.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of House MD. They're owned by Fox.
House looked up at the tall, dark haired woman when he heard the knock on his door, and gave her the shit-eating grin he knew she hated. “You.”
“Don’t start with me, House,” Micheala Shea said as she pushed open the door to the room, “I’m really not in the mood.”
“I believe that when you left that you said—no, you promised—that you would never darken my doorway again.”
“Yeah, well, I lied,” she sighed, glaring at him, “Aren’t I fitting in with your idea of the norm?”
He smirked back at her, watching as she sat down across from him, “What are you doing here?”
“Heard you fired Chase,” she sighed, crossing her arms across her chest, “I thought you were never going to let him go.”
“Figured you would hear about that,” House sighed, “You and Chase were always attached—well, not at the hip, but somewhere just as close.”
She sighed, her voice sounding worn out, “I’ve never slept with Chase.”
"That’s right—you had your eyes on another doctor.”
“I also heard you were hiring,” she cut him off before he could take that any further, but obviously not liking what she was saying, “I’m here for a job.”
“Having trouble getting hired, are we?”
“House—” she began, pleading with him not to rub it in, “I really need this job.”
“You sure you’re here for a job, or have you heard Wilson’s really single this time, and are looking for your chance at being Mrs. Wilson Number Four?”
“This is not about Wilson.”
“It’s always about Wilson. Its how you got the job here in the first place.”
She looked away from him, “Look, I just got let go from the last hospital I was at, I need something to tide me over till I can get another job.”
“Then talk to Cuddy. I’m not taking you on as a fellow. Again. Look how well, that ended last time.”
“C’mon, House. Do you think I’m naïve enough to believe that you didn’t talk shit about me to the other doctors once I was gone?”
“Oh, yeah, that’s definitely what I did,” he said, giving her a look, “I was just so pissed that I was the only doctor you didn’t sleep with.”
“My God, I wasn’t sleeping with—”
“I know for a fact that you were at least sleeping with one of them,” he said, “My guess is Wilson, but who knows—Chase could have been getting some on the side as well.”
She sighed heavily, “I never slept with Chase.” Her voice lightened slightly, and she smirked, “You on the other hand—”
“Well, you know—he has such great hair.”
She chuckled slightly before shaking her head, “I’ve already been through Cuddy. She sent me here. I really need this job, House.”
He sighed, “As much as I’d love to have your—interesting—perspective in my office, I can’t take you on as a fellow again.”
She closed her eyes and slumped backwards in her seat, “Anything you can do?”
“Talk to Wilson. You are an oncologist.”
She raised an eyebrow, “You really think that’s the best idea?”
“You say you need the job.”
“Yeah, but I’m not desperate.”
“Are you?”
She sighed, before getting up and walking towards the door, “Thanks for nothing, House.”
“Looking forward to working with you again, Dr. Shea,” he shouted after her, the same grin on her face from when she arrived.
