OC Backstory - Jake McCallahan

I'm giving Jake a more of a background than the other supporting cast, because, at [livejournal.com profile] goddess_loki's prodding, he most likely will be who I claim next at [livejournal.com profile] 12_developments. So, therefore--this be McCallahan.

Actual Person Pictured: Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Age: 35
Parents: Arthur and Doctor Roberta McCallahan
Siblings: Hilary McCallahan
Children: Caitlin and Seth McCallahan (with Marjorie Morgan.)

Jacob McCallahan was born in Yonkers, New York. His mother was a renowned trauma surgeon in the emergency room at Trinity General, while his father ran his own business from home. His mother was rarely ever in the house, which explains the large age difference between him and his sister, Hilary (five years). He somehow, became closer with his mother than his father, and he spent a lot of time in the emergency room when he wasn't doing other things. He used to say that he practiced a lot of his charm on the nurses, and they helped him become better at flirting than he ever really needed. Through his volunteer time at the ER, he also became accoustmed to the blood and gore of wounds, and discovered that he had inherited his mother's steady hands.

He was one of those all-around athletes in high school, mostly focused towards football, but he also participated in wrestling, track, and swimming to keep in shape. He got a full ride to Florida State, and majored in biology on the pre-med track while he played, intending to go into med school if his dreams of playing in the NFL didn't pan out. In college, he did his best to maintain his GPA to keep his scholarship, but did it just barely, always being more of a partier than a studier. When he blew out his knee during his sophmore year, he dropped out of college in Florida, and moved back to New York. His mother tried to encourage him to maybe go back to school up North, but he decided that wasn't what he wanted, and joined the police acadmey.

He graduated top of his class from the acadmey, and slowly made his way through the ranks until he made detective. His first partner wasn't necessarily the most clean cut, and when he reported him to the brass, it made it hard for him to find a partner to work with, because they all were giving him trouble for what he had done. When a new group of detectives came in, who weren't as involved in the incident before hand, and he was partnered with a young detective named Michael Anderson. He and Anderson had a hard time getting along at first, because of Anderson's self-destructive tendencies, but he knew he was a good detective, and managed to put the fact that he could be a total ass behind him. He and Anderson were paired up with a team that included Darren Mullvaney and Theresa Cassavelli.

Being as close to his mother as he was, he still spent a lot of time in Trinity once he was back in New York, and when Roberta left the emergency room and started taking on patients on a more regular manner, he started spending some time waiting for her outside her office. Much to his mother's dismay, he started chatting up her patients, and despite a few disasterous attempts at drinks before hand, he happened to ask out a woman named Marjorie Morgan. She accepted the offer, and Marjorie was his last really solid relationship that lasted. He's had a few flings here and there since then, with people both on the force and off, but he hasn't really he had someone he considered more than just a lover in a while.

His relationship with Hilary is probably one of the most dynamic parts of his life. Since Jake was five when Hilary was born, there was never really any rivalry between them, but their personalities are very incompatible with each other. Hilary tends to take after their father, who can be a bit high strung and tense at times, and while Roberta is more relaxed than Arthur is, Jake is definitely the most laid back of the family. He is usually the voice of reason in most arguments, and his lack of need to panic often puts him at odds with his sister, who can be the most high strung of the group. He can also be a bit protective of her when it comes to men, though, and has no problem flaunting the fact that he is a cop in order to scare them off when he doesn't think they're good enough for her. She, in turn, can be protective when it comes to her brother as well, but she won't go to the same lengths that Jake will.

Oh! I can't wait for you to claim him. I really can't. And this plus knowing what he looks like adds a whole new dimension to the thing we wrote with him and Rachel...

I love reading backstories for OCs. :) Sometimes they're more interesting than characters you see on TV. And Jeffery is just hot. ;-)

I'm actually writing up a backgroud for one of my OCs. I play her in a RPG and have written her a few times in fics. She's a lot of fun. ^^

i have--many. sometimes i think too many, but i love them all in their own special way. i actually like them more than canon characters sometimes, and when i apply for RPGs, i usually try to play on OC first, probably my fear of being out of character than anything else.

i have bios for most of them (i have to write up a few posts for ones that are more supporting cast, but most of them are up there). there's a link over on my sidebar if you want to have a look.

neither can i--i'm thinking i may cheat. it makes it so much easier to picture stuff that way. now they both have a really clear face.

Oh! Completely off topic: I like Dean more then Sam.

i did too at first, but season 2 is turning me into such a sam girl. i like them both pretty equally at this point.
