Author: [livejournal.com profile] iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Eric Foreman, mentions of Gregory House
[livejournal.com profile] dramaticmuses Prompt: 006. Gentleman

Summary: There was a difference between him and House. Foreman was actually capable of being a human being outside the workplace.
Author's Note: Not long at all. I'm not sure about how I feel about this. Foreman's kinda hard to pin down, and he wasn't feeling particularly helpful.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of House, MD. They're owned by Fox. However, any and all original characters are mine, so please don't use them without my permission.

The idea that he and House were one in the same annoyed him to no end. Because it wasn’t like he didn’t realize he was picking up on some of House’s—less favorable—characteristics, but he had to in order to deal with the man. Generally speaking, House only responded to what he used himself, and if Foreman had to be nasty to get his point across then, damnit, he was going to do it. He had never had scruples when it came to standing up for himself in the work place and defending anything from the ability to do his job to his record. And if he needed to be an ass to do it, he was going to be an ass.

There was a difference between him and House. Foreman was actually capable of being a human being outside the workplace. He could be the perfect gentleman if he wanted to. He had friends, associates, family. He had had more than one solid romantic relationship in his lifetime. He didn’t resort to hookers because no one loved him. He was a full-fledged, for the most part law-abiding member of society. House, on the other hand, couldn’t get along with anyone if you paid him a million dollars. No, wait. He probably would. But once the money was in his hands, he would automatically revert back to his usual misanthropic who didn’t give a damn what people thought, and was now a million dollars richer. Not that he had anyone to share it with. Not that he would share at all.

Yes, maybe Foreman had his pride. And yes, maybe he could be a first class ass to his co-workers. He was a jerk when he needed to be, and may share certain—personality traits with the man he worked for.

He was still nothing like House.

in one eppisode they wore the same shoes.

...nothing like House. This was nice. Well done.

yeah--foreman's in serious denial. all that's missing is a drug addiction and a limp and he's the black version of house. but this is his story so--i have to do what he tells me.

i'm glad you liked it.

I think that House is afraid of getting close to anyone, because at the end of S1 I got the impression that he was slightly [if not significantly] different before his leg went all to hell and Stacy left. Two setbacks as major as that would certainly knock me back a few. And I think that House certainly does care about the people he works with/is friends with, even if he acts like a complete ass most of the time. Look at the way he won Cameron back to work with the team after she quit that one time.

So, yes. Foreman, here's a little factoid for you: Denial. It's not just a river in Egypt. This was very nice. I liked how you had Foreman pointing out all these examples of how he wasn't like House, but then had me thinking "that's exactly what House does/is!" I don't know if that's what you intended or not, though.

btw. I have a huge crush on Hugh Laurie.

that was definitely what i intended. foreman is most definitely in denial, he just doesn't like to admit it.

I think this was a great insight into Foreman.

thanks! he's having a hard time settling in my head. the only time he really talks to me is when he wants to complain about house. but i'll take that over nothing.

i'm glad you liked it.
