Dean looked into the window of the bar, and spotted a flash of blond sitting next to a cocky smirk that he couldn’t stand. He stood there, watching them for a minute, before tapping his brother on the shoulder.

“Let’s grab a beer.”

Sam turned and gave his brother a look, “We’re supposed to be on a hunt.”

“It can wait.”

“It can wait?” Sam said, glancing in the window, and shaking his head. “Dude—we really don’t have time for this now.”

“Yes, we do,” Dean replied, before turning and walking into the bar. “Consider it recon.”

Recon?” Sam said, shaking his head as he followed his brother. “For what?”

“Come on, you don’t seriously think a guy that sleazy is human, do you?”

“Dean, just because you don’t like him, doesn’t make him supernatural.”

“Do you want the beer or not?” Dean asked, turning back to look at his brother. Sam sighed heavily before shaking his head.

“Yeah, sure,” Sam replied, rolling his eyes. “I’ll have a beer.”

Delko was surprised when he walked into the bar and spotted the Winchester brothers sitting in the corner. He didn’t know that they were in town—Calleigh hadn’t mentioned it—and he didn’t expect them to be hanging out in a place like this if they were. His curiosity getting the better of him, he moved over to the table where the two of them were sitting, catching Sam’s eye and getting a nod of acknowledgement from him before heading over.

He noticed that Dean’s eyes didn’t leave what they were focused on fully, flitting to Delko in a brief moment of acknowledgement before returning to their original target. Delko slid onto the chair across from Sam.

“Didn’t expect to see you two here,” he began, and Sam shrugged.

“We’re just hanging out—decided to grab a beer.” Sam paused for a minute, looking at his brother, before rolling his eyes slightly. “Well, that’s why I’m here.”

“And Dean?” Delko asked. “Why’s he here?” Sam took a deep breath, before tilting his head in the direction that Dean was looking. Delko followed his eyes, before spotting his coworker and the detective that he wasn’t too fond of. He took a deep breath before responding, “Oh.”

“We’re just keepin’ an eye on things,” Dean said, speaking up for the first time since Delko had gotten there, and from the look on Sam’s face, probably since they had gotten there as well. “Makin’ sure he’s not—possessed or something.”

Sam gave his brother a look, “First of all, Dean—he’s not possessed.”

“You don’t know that,” Dean replied, pointing at his brother with his beer. “Possessed people are don’t just have a tell that lets you know they’re possessed.”

Delko smirked slightly, before shaking his head, “I think if he was possessed, Calleigh would have figured it out by now. They’ve know each other a long time.”

Dean looked slightly disappointed at that. Sam rolled his eyes, “Dean’s only looking for an excuse to shoot him.”

At that Delko grinned, “Believe me, man—you aren’t the only one.”

“So—knowing each other a long time means she must trust him a lot,” Dean said slowly.

There was a pause, and Delko spoke up again, “That’s not what she says.”

Dean looked at him, and Sam glanced between the two, before getting up from the table. “I’m gonna get another beer. You guys want one?”

Dean and Delko both nodded, and Sam disappeared to the bar. Dean took the last swig of his beer and turned back to Delko. “So—what does she say?”

“That she trusts me with her life, but she doesn’t want to screw up what we’ve already got,” Delko sighed. “Yet she’s dating him, when she had no idea how she feels about him.”

Dean snorted slightly, “That’s bullshit.”

“I agree with you there.”

Dean hesitated for a minute, before setting his jaw, “Look man, if it was you—or that other guy, Wolfe—I could handle it, because I know you’d actually give shit. With him—he just pisses me off.”

“What about you?”

“What about me?” Delko gave him a look, and Dean shook his head, “I wouldn’t do her much good.”

“Why not?”

Dean laughed slightly, “Because I’m just like him.” He paused for a minute, “Except better looking.”

Delko laughed, before shaking his head. “Don’t sell yourself so short, man. Calleigh might trust you more than she trusts me.”

“Different kinds of trust, dude,” Dean shrugged. “Besides, I’m never around. I wouldn’t be able to support her like she needs. And she’s had enough dead-end guys—she doesn’t need another one.”

Delko watched him for a minute, before Dean pushed away from the table and gave him a half-smile. “I better get goin’. Nice talkin’ to you.”

“Yeah,” Delko nodded, before watching him walk back towards his brother. “You too.”
