Brian watched Christina from the bar as she talked to the FBI agent from LA. He didn’t know who he was to her, but they seemed to be a bit closer than casual friends. He wasn’t necessarily jealous—he just wanted to know where the two really stood. He watched as he made her laugh about something unrelated, and he rolled his eyes as he turned back to the bar. The guy was clearly trying too hard. He ordered a drink and did his best to keep his eyes on the bottles lining the wall behind the bar.
“Seems overly cheesy to you, Counselor?”
Brian looked up and saw Megan standing next to him, and gave her a smile. “Not at all, Agent Reeves. Just think that he’s trying too hard.”
“Really?” she smirked, sitting on the stool next to him, “You think he should try less?”
“I think he should just stop entirely,” Brian shook his head, “He’s got her. If he can’t see that, he’s fuckin’ blind.”
Megan laughed slightly, “Yeah, well—Colby’s used to the girl’s he’s interested in being taken. He probably thinks it might be too good to be true.”
“So talking to a girl who’s actually interested in him is a bit out of his comfort zone?” Brian commented.
“Just a little,” Megan nodded, watching him as he watched Christina. There was silence for a moment, before she tilted her head to the side and regarded him slightly. “She mean something to you?”
“She did,” he nodded, “Once upon a time.” He paused, before turning back to her and shrugging slightly, “Things didn’t work out.”
“I’m sorry,” Megan nodded, and he shrugged.
“Seems like it worked out for the best though. Granger, I mean—he seems like a good guy.”
“He is,” she nodded again, turning to watch the couple this time. Brian watched her, and then glanced back in the same direction.
“What about you?” he asked, “Did he mean something to you?”
“He does, but not in the same way,” she shrugged, “But he always seemed to fit the part of the annoying little brother than a lover.”
Brian nodded, “But none of that really matters though, right? Just so long as they’re happy?”
“That’s what they say,” Megan nodded, before turning her eyes back to Brian, “What do you think?”
“Makes sense to me,” he shrugged, watching as Christina grabbed Colby’s hand and pulled him with her towards the dance floor, “Don’t see why not.”

“What do you think they’re talking about?” Colby whispered in her ear, before nodding over to where Megan and Brian were sitting.
“What do you think?” she said giving him a look, “Apparently we’re a very hot topic of conversation.”
“Really?” he said, nodding slowly, “That’s pretty interesting.”
“Never been the subject of office gossip before?” she said, raising an eyebrow.
“Well—not like this,” he replied.
“Oh,” she nodded, “I see.”
“What about you?”
“Constantly,” she said with a smirk, “I’m an old pro at dodging the gossip hounds.”
“You’ll have to give me some pointers.”
“You got it,” she nodded, before leaning into his chest with a heavy sigh, “Wish you didn’t have to go back to LA, though.”
“Yeah,” he frowned, “That kinda sucks.”
“I’ll have to come out and visit you sometime soon,” she sighed, “Since you’ve already been around here.”
“Sounds good,” he nodded, “Just let me know when you can get the vacation time.”
“I will,” she smiled, and then there was another pause, “Guess we’re really doing this, huh?”
“Really doing what?” he asked.
“Us.”
“Yeah,” he nodded, giving her a wide smile, “I guess we are.”
