“I’m just saying, Stell, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

“I’m not.”

“No?” he said, watching her as she put the car into gear and pulled away from the curb. The smirk on his face needed to go away. Now.

No,” she replied, glaring at him as the car came to a stop in front of a red light, “You said it yourself. There’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

“Nope. Nothing at all,” he replied, looking out the window.

There was a long silence. The long awkward silence that Flack did so well. He would just sit there, lost in some kind of thought, and especially after a conversation like this, you knew he was silently making fun of her for what had happened at the scene. She was glad that it was just Flack though, because he was the one person that she definitely knew she could threaten into submission. Danny may not mention it specifically, but he would tease her endlessly for it until someone was bound to ask, Mac wouldn’t see the point in keeping it a secret, and probably tell anyone who asked, and Hawkes—well, he would keep it a secret if she asked him too, but he’d forget eventually and it would slip out. Flack was the only one who was scared enough of her to keep his mouth shut until she said otherwise, but then again, he had a lot more left to lose when it came to her than the other three did.

“I mean—it just surprised me, that’s all,” she said as the traffic started to move forward again.

“That’s understandable.”

“I knew it wasn’t going to hurt me.”

“Of course you did.”

“I wasn’t scared.”

“I never said you were,” he replied before an evil grin crossed his face, “I believed I used the word terrified.”

“I swear to God, Flack,” she said, giving him a look.

“Hey, you were the one who brought it up again,” he said, holding up his hands in self defense, “I was just continuing the conversation.”

“I’m not scared of mice!” she stated.

“Of course not.” She glared at him again, and the smirk still wouldn’t go away. “Really, Stella—it’s OK to be scared of mice.”

“I’m not!” He gave her a look, and she rolled her eyes, “This from the man who is scared of ghosts.”

“First of all, I am not scared of them. I just believe in them, and that’s something completely different. Second of all, my belief in the supernatural has nothing to do with this conversation.”

“Course it does, Flack,” she said, throwing him a quick smirk before turning her eyes back to the road, “Everything’s connected.”

“You are starting to sound too much like Mac for my taste. And I wasn’t finished yet.”

“I’m so sorry. Please finish.”

“I’m offended by your sarcasm, Bonasera,” he said simply before continuing, “Thirdly, if I were to encounter said being from the great beyond, I highly doubt I would react in the way that you did.”

She gave him a quick glare, “What was wrong with my reaction?”

“Oh, nothing,” he replied, a small smirk crossing his face, “I just think that the scream was just under crossing over into the threshold where only dogs could hear it.” She reached over and smacked him on the shoulder, causing the car to swerve violently, and Flack gripped the side of the door for dear life, “Alright, alright, I’ll drop it. But let us make it back to the lab alive, please.”

Stella scowled at him, and focused on the road. The rest of the car ride there was total silence, and when she finally pulled the car into the parking spot, she turned to him before getting out of the car, “Please don’t mention it to anyone, alright Flack?”

“I won’t, Stell. Really.”

“Thank you,” she sighed, before they both got out of the car and started to unload the evidence. She loaded a few bags into his hands, before he gave her a goofy smile.

“Can I tease you about it a little in private, if the mood happens to strike?”

She gave him a look, and crossed her arms in front of her chest, “Do you like having sex?”

“Point taken,” he replied quickly before turning and making his way into the lab.
