“Hey Hawkes,” Don said as he made his way through the lab, “You seen Stella?”

“I think she was heading up to the roof,” he replied. He noticed the look of concern on the other man’s face, and gave him a look, “Everything alright?”

“Nah, I just heard the way the case went down, wanted to make sure she was OK,” Don replied, shaking his head dismissively. Hawkes looked the man up and down briefly for a second, before giving him a nod.

“Uh-huh,” he replied, before walking away. Don frowned, shook his head briefly for a second before heading towards the door for the stairs, and before he could get there, he collided with Lindsay.

She looked him up and down for a second before grabbing his hand. “I was just looking for you.”

“Monroe, now’s really not a good time.”

“We found a suspect in that assault case,” she said, dragging him off in the direction she need him to go, “We need to go pick him up.”

“Can’t Danny go with you?”

“He’s making sure that the rest of the evidence points to him as well,” Lindsay replied, “Everything alright?”

He shook his head slowly before continuing. He knew work was first, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t at least attempt to weasel his way out of it. “Yeah, fine. Where are we going?”

“Hey, it’s me. I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. Just give me a call if you get this, if not I’ll see you at home, alright? I’m worried about you.”

Stella erased the voicemail, and decided to talk to him at home instead of calling him back. She still wasn’t sure what she was going to say yet, or really sure what he was going to ask for. If anything he probably just wanted to listen, and listening was good when she actually knew what to say. All she had to give was generic answers, and she wasn’t sure if he would take that or not.

She was sitting on the couch, flipping through the channels on the TV when he came home, earlier than she had expected. “Get the guy?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Flack nodded, “He cracked faster than we expected him to. ADA’s probably going to offer him a deal or something.”

She nodded, watching him as he shed his jacket and tie before walking over and sitting down next to her. “You OK?” he asked, and she nodded.

“Yeah. She just—she got to me.”

“You sure that’s it?” he asked, pulling her legs into his lap as he moved closer.

“That’s it,” she said with a smile, and she noticed that the worried look on his face didn’t fade. “You’re still worried about me.”

“I’m always gonna worry about you, Stella,” he replied. “It’s my job.”

“Well, I’m OK,” she nodded, “So if you could pretend you’re not for a little bit, I’d appreciate it.”

The look faded enough so that she could barely see it if she was looking for it, and she leaned in to give him a quick kiss. “Thank you.”

“Anytime, Stell,” he said, “Anytime.”
