Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI or CSI:NY. They're owned by CBS.

Stella glanced around the lobby of the Las Vegas Crimelab, wondering what the hell she was doing. He didn’t even know she was coming. She had just shown up, on a whim, when Mac gave her some much needed vacation time, and she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to expect. She knew that he worked nights, so he was probably just getting off shift now, if he wasn’t working a case. But if he was working a case, she was just probably bothering him in the middle of doing his job and that would be bad. She didn’t want to impose, she just wanted to say hello, maybe grab a bite to eat with him, and catch up. Damnit, she should have called.

Calm down, Stella, she heard the voice in the back of her head pick up, It’s just Nick.

She shouldn’t even be saying that. They worked one case together, and she felt that she had the right to just waltz in here like they were old friends. Maybe he didn’t even like her. Maybe he was just cordial to her because they were colleagues. Maybe he thought she was boring and made bad jokes and—

She took a deep breath, trying to stop her racing thoughts. It had been so long since she had been this worked up over anything, let alone a guy. She really needed to calm down. Nothing was going to happen. They were just friends. If he seemed up to it, she was going to suggest a bit of breakfast to catch up. No big deal. She turned, and suddenly found herself face to face with a brunette woman, who was giving her a strange look. Stella was ready to be told to leave, as the woman gave her a thin lipped smile and began to speak.

“Can I help you?”

“No—I mean, yes—I mean—” she took a deep breath, before she finally pulled herself together, “I’m looking for Nick Stokes. Is he in today, or—”

“He’s on his way out,” the woman replied, “You could just wait out here—”

“Stella?” The familiar voice registered in her mind, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

“Sofia,” she said with a smile, as the woman walked over to her, “So good to see you.”

“Good to see you,” Sofia nodded, returning the smile, “What are you doing in Vegas?”

“I’m on vacation,” Stella said with a smile, “So I figured since I was here, I’d pop in and say hello.” Sofia noticed the look the brunette was giving them and shook her head.

“I’m sorry. Stella, this is Sara Sidle; she’s a criminalist here at the lab. Sara, this is Detective Stella Bonasera; she’s one of the CSIs who worked with us on the Burkawitz case.” Stella extended her hand to the woman.

“Nice to meet you,” Sara replied, shaking her hand, “Nick’s said a lot about you.”

“Really?” Stella replied, taken aback slightly, “Nick mentioned you as well.”

Sara gave her a nod, before excusing herself and heading towards the door. Sofia then took Stella by the arm, leading her into the lab. “I think Nick said that he was heading for the locker room. I’m not off shift quite yet, but I’m sure he’ll want to see you.”

“I’d like that,” Stella nodded as they continued to walk.

“How’s Danny?”

“Good,” Stella nodded, “He won’t admit it, but he misses you.”

Sofia smirked, “Of course he won’t. He doesn’t want to admit that he may have actually liked me.” There was a pause and she continued, “Angell and Adam?”

“They’re good too,” Stella nodded, “Told me to say hello.”

“Do the same from me,” Sofia said with a smile, when a familiar voice echoed through the hallway.

“Well, I’m headin out. See you tonight, ‘Rick.” Nick emerged from the locker room, and threw a glance and a nod in the direction of the two women. He hesitated for a second, then his eyes came back around a smile on his face. “Stella!”

“Hi,” she grinned, as he walked over to her, and wrapped her in a hug. She hadn’t been expecting one, but it wasn’t necessarily unwelcome either.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“I’m on vacation, so I figured since I’m here, I’d come say hi,” she said, “I was also wanted to see if maybe you’d be up for some breakfast?”

“Definitely,” Nick said, the smile not coming off his face, “I know this great place—” Sofia watched the two of them walk away, and noticed Warrick had stuck his head out of the locker room and watched as the two walked out of the crimelab.

“So that’s Stella, huh?”

“Yup.”

“Know how long she’s here for?”

“No. Probably till the end of the week, at least.”

“You know who has off this weekend?”

“I think its Greg.” The two of them looked at each other, before Sofia turned to head back into the lab, “I’ll go find him.”

“I’ll go talk to Griss.”

***

“So how long are you here for?” Nick asked as their plates arrived. He still couldn’t believe that she was actually there. He hadn’t seen her since they had wrapped the Burkowitz case, and he had missed her. She had this spark that the dark halls of the crimelab seemed to be lacking as of late.

“End of next week,” she replied with a grin.

“Two weeks?” Nick nodded, “Nice. I wish I could get two weeks off like that.”

“I need it,” Stella nodded, “Especially after this last year. I need two weeks just to relax.”

“I hear that.”

“Any chance I’d happened to show up when you’ll be getting some scheduled time off?” she asked hopefully and he cringed.

“Sorry,” he sighed.

“Oh well,” she shrugged, “Just hoping I could get shown around by an actual local.”

“Maybe on your next trip,” he said with a smile, and she nodded.

“Maybe,” she said, returning the smile before turning to her food. They drifted off into a comfortable silence before it was broken by the sound of Nick’s phone. He glanced down at it for a second, annoyed, before deciding to answer it.

“Yeah?”

Stella watched as a slow smile stretched across his face, and he looked over at her as he spoke.

“Tell him I really appreciate it.—Alright—Later, man,” he hung up, and the smile turned into a full grin, “How bout we do that tour this weekend?”

“You got the time off?” she said excitedly, and he nodded.

“Apparently one of the other CSIs really like me,” he replied.

“Really?”

“Either that, or Warrick and Sofia beat him into submission,” Nick nodded, “I’d prefer to think of it as the former.”

Stella laughed, “I would too.”

His hand slid across the table over to hers, and he suddenly glanced down at his food, “I’m really glad you decided to come out here, Stella. It’s really good to see you.”

“I’m glad I came too,” she smiled, giving his hand a squeeze, before letting go and starting to eat again. “So, where are you going to take me?”

“Now, if I told you that, that would take all the fun out of it now, wouldn’t it?”

She gave him a small pout, “C’mon, just give me a few hints?”

“Nope.”

“Spoilsport.”

Aww! So cute. So very cute. And please tell me Greg was very nice and gave up his weekend and wasn't beaten into submission? Because I'd have to hurt Sofia and Warrick...

This is really great. I've never even considered Nick/Stella, but that could definitely work. Although I think Don would be INCREDIBLY jealous....but that's another fic LOL

Great work.

Ps. I wanted to say thank you so much for checking out the community for me. I'm kind of obsessive compulsive about links and things LOL Thank you again!
