Something in your eyes was so inviting,
Something in you smile was so exciting,
Something in my heart,
Told me I must have you.
There’s something incredibly fulfilling about a one night stand. She could never put her finger exactly on why—she figured it was the romanticism of it all—but to her, the sex was always better than it was in a relationship.
And she wasn’t talking about a drunken quickie in the back of a bar either. She was talking about when two people met and had this great (sober) connection and knowing that they may not see each other again, decide to take advantage of that connection while they have the chance. Anna had her fair share of both, as well as relationships, and she had to say that those starcrossed moments were her favorites.
Relationships tended to bore her. It was the same as being in one place for too long—things start getting too familiar, too predictable, and she starts getting restless, ready to look for something new. Quickies were fun and good for scratching the itch, but emotionally they were pretty lacking and she usually didn’t remember most of them anyway. Once night stand, though—those were always gold.
Everything was always new. It wasn’t something—or someone, rather—she had done many times before, and yet there was still that emotional connection that everyone craved. If they happened to see each other again, good for them. If not, no regrets, no thinking God, I should have done something while I had the chance.
She figured that it was probably the no regret part that made the situation so ideal. Life was easier when she didn’t have to look back and feel like she had missed out on something. She mad so many other regrets as it was, she didn’t need the little ones too. Life was also easier when you could find those connections and have them still mean something to you weeks down the road, without things getting old. That was probably the most important thing—making sure connecting with someone didn’t get old. Because she’d probably stop connecting at all, and isolation wasn’t a good feeling.
It was something she never wanted to feel again.
