Hitching with hunters was tricky.

She didn’t do it often—hunters don’t usually stop for hitchhikers. Most people don’t either, not unless they were desperate for the company, and hunters didn’t get that desperate that often. Some of them were good people, though, and would pull over to see if she was alright, but she had to be very careful about getting in the car. If the hunter was any good, being alone in a car with him (or her) wouldn’t exactly be the best thing.

She’s never been caught. Ever. Mostly because she’s gotten good at covering up the signs that she may not exactly be normal, and she knew what to look for. She didn’t know why the demon traps worked for her the way they did, and there were some where she didn’t know whether or not they worked, but she wasn’t about to find out.

Holy water in the beer she could hide. A slight choke on the first sip she can cover by saying it went down a little to fast. She had seen demons burned by holy water before and her reaction wasn’t nearly as bad, which on some days helped convince her that she was less of a bad guy than she thought, but on others it still didn’t help, and also helped convince her that she wasn’t a demon. But there were some things where she didn’t like to take the risk.

Like with the Devil’s trap.

She had never been caught in one, and frankly, she never wanted to be, so she wasn’t taking any chances. If it held her, there was no way she could play that off. She would be stuck and suddenly, the hunter wouldn’t be so inclined to get her to her destination safe and sound.

That’s why she kept her eyes peeled whenever she got in the car with a hunter. Their cars were fairly easy to spot—they always had a good deal of wear and tear, and hunters tended to watch you like a hawk whether they knew you were a demon or not. It was in their body language—the slump of their shoulders, the look in their eyes—again, not very hard to miss. Her eyes checked every inch of the car, covering by appraising the vehicle, before she even thought accepting the ride. And once she was convinced everything was all clear, that was when she got in the car.

It could be argued that she was just as paranoid as they were, but she just smirked and said that she understood where they were coming from. Being careful like that kept her out of any uncomfortable situations. After all, she didn’t want to call any attention to herself. She just wanted to keep on sliding by.
