There's going some SPN related spam today. Sorry in advance. (Not that I think many of you would mind...) I just know that there are some spoiler-free people on my flist, and I don't want to group everything together, and accidently spoil someone (because I know how much that sucks).
OK--definitely very interested in Ruby at this point, but that's more because of spoilers that I read about her for a future episode, which I won't talk about here, but maybe talk about in a later post. This is going to be more focused on this episode.
Having watched from the beginning and now that I better understand what's going on, here are my thoughts:
Everybody blaming the Apocalypse on the Winchesters: I don't think anyone really fully understands what's going on with the whole gates-of-hell opening thing. They just know that the Winchesters were there, and they were the last humans in possession of the Colt. I mean, the whole thing with the YED was a lot of smoke and mirrors for most, if not all, of the other hunters, and I think a lot of them are pretty frickin' pissed that all these demons that were previously stuck in hell are out again. I think they're just taking out their anger on the nearest available source that they can legitimately place the blame on, and that happens to be Sam and Dean.
Tamara and Isaac: I really liked them. Tamara's a really interesting character, and even though Isaac was a jerk to the boys, (he wasn't there, he really shouldn't be talking) I was sad that that's the way he went out. I really hope the boys run into Tamara again, because she seemed to work rather well together with the boys and Bobby.
Bobby: Is love. There needs to be more Bobby fic out there.Bobby/Ellen or Bobby and John, maybe? Anyway, I loved him in the suit, and the way he puts up with the brothers and their antics. He's such a great character.
Ruby: I think it's going to go in another post, because I really have a few ideas about how things with her are going to go, and they're spoilery. (Oh, and is using a Ruby icon still spoilery?)
Sam: Poor Sammy, having to put up with Dean and his Doublemint twins. I have to say though, I'm surprised he said something to Dean as quickly as he did. I figured the "Alright, dude, I'm sick of this..." line would come further down the line, but I guess it fit for where they were. I'm surprised that Dean hadn't told Sam the full extent of the deal earlier as well, but I guess it kind of makes sense, mostly because I'm not sure if he felt Sam would have listened if he did. Sam seemed to be so focused on getting Dean out of the deal, that he wasn't letting what Dean did really become real to him. By pissing Sam off the way he was, Dean is kind of forcing Sam to see the truth that this is it. This is the end. I don't think Sam is going to be giving up any time soon though. Because he's Sam, and this is his brother, and yeah--they're both ridiculously loyal that way. Which is what we all love about them. I think he's just going to do it without Dean's consent.
And finally...
Dean: Oh, Dean. I was reading
eboniorchid's thoughts on the episode before I rewatched, and she was talking about how Dean's death wish was a bit interesting. And I happen to agree. Here's my theory: Dean didn't want to make a deal. Well, he wanted to, but Dean has always been the kind of character who's big on choices and action rather than destiny and fate. We saw a lot of this when he was trying to convince Sam that he wasn't going to go darkside. Dean doesn't like having his life in anyone else's hands but his own. That's just who he is. But in a sense, by making this deal with the Crossroads Demon, he's basically completely handed over his life, in essence giving him a destiny--that thing he believes doesn't exist. He's come to terms that his life is going to end, but he's not going to go down her way. He's going to take every opportunity he can to try and prove that he is the master of his own life, and that things aren't completely out of his hands. It's probably more to prove it to himself than anything else, but I think that's the way his thought process is going.
And that's that.
