All in the Family...
i'm doing another post with minor characters from my series, and since there are so many in See You Again Yesterday, i'm splitting them up into two posts. this one's going to be frequently used family members, while the next post is going to be frequently used--other people.
Actual Person: Justin Hartley, Actor
Name: Whitney Harper
Age: 33
Whit grew up as probably the most outgoing member of the Harper family. Derek was popular by default through the sports he joined, while Nate and Lilly rode that wave to popularity, but Whit actually went out and got it for himself. He never had a problem talking to girls—talking to anyone for that matter—and in high school that earned him a reputation for a player, which he’s not, but he never disputed it either.
He joined the Navy straight out of high school, while working on his engineering degree at the same time. His plans were to be an architect, and he knew that his family wasn’t going to be able to afford to send him to school on their own, so he was the one of the family who actually took advantage of that end of being in the armed service. He didn’t want to go into the Navy, and didn’t like being forced to by his father, but he figured that if he was going to be there, he might as well take advantage of it. He also later learned that the ladies were quite fond of the sailors.
Lilly and Whit became extremely close after their brother Nate died, and he’s always been protective of her. When the news came, he forbade the officers who would have informed her themselves from doing it, and drove to school to tell her himself, in person. He’s threatened Danny with more times than he can count, and continues to do it, despite the fact that Danny has more than proved that he’s with Lilly for the long run.

Derek, the oldest of the Harper family, is more of a silent giant. Football player in high school, he was probably the only one of his siblings who didn’t question his father’s command that they all do some kind of armed service for their country. While he didn’t necessarily care for the idea, being the oldest he knew he had to set an example, and if he went against his father, he knew without a doubt that the rest of them would as well.
After the Air Force, he used his technical training to get a job as an auto mechanic, a skill which came in handy when he met a woman stranded on the side of the road one night, who’s car had broken down. She had nothing to pay a mechanic with, which is why she hadn’t called a tow truck. He offered to do the repair work for her, in exchange for her going out to dinner with him. She took him up on it, and they were married a little over a year later.
Lilly and Derek aren’t as close as she is to Whit, more because of the ten year age gap between them, but they are closer than you would expect. They have a very similar sense of humor, and the same love of the Giants that runs through the entire Harper clan. They all buy season tickets every year to attend the games, and while some may consider that a waste of money to spend on a losing team, it’s a huge bonding moment for them.

Age: 38
Lisa was an up and coming business executive for a large firm in the city when she met Derek Harper. She asked to attend an event in Princeton, and decided to drive in, instead of taking the train, needing to save money. However, when she found herself broken down on the side of the road, miles away from her destination, with no credit card to have it repaired, she knew she was screwed. Derek spotted her and when he offered to repair her car in exchange for dinner, she decided to take it, not having any other options. After all it was only one dinner. When he asked her to marry him a year and a half later, she was somewhat surprised at how she got there, but said yes anyway.
Lilly loved Lisa when she first met her, and how she tries to tame the tongues of the Harpers. Every one of them grew up spewing foul language from the get-go, and while Lisa tries her best to tame it, there are times when she’s spouting right back at them, usually directed at her husband. She and Derek have two children together, an older boy named Harry, after Lisa’s father, and a baby girl named Erin.

Name: Damien Mullvaney
Age: 30
Damien is considered the evil twin by most of the Mullvaney clan. Clearly more gifted in the area of academics than his twin, Damien excelled in school, earning scholarships to Ivy League schools in the area, knowing he’d need them if he wanted to actually go there. While he felt slightly guilty about going to college when his brother didn’t, Darren somehow convinced him not to, saying that he didn’t need the academic education where he was going anyway. He graduated from Colombia with a Bachelors Degree in Abnormal Psychology, intending to work in the field after he had gotten his medical degree.
He soon found that clinical psychiatry wasn’t for him and switched over to earning his Masters in the same field, and accepted a teach position at NYU while he worked on his doctorate. He hasn’t finished, and has yet to be published, but he’s found he likes teaching the subject more than studying it, and isn’t in a rush to. Always meant to be an academic, he thrives in the situation he’s in, and isn’t looking to change that anytime soon.
Darren loves his brother, but trusts him just about as far as he can throw him. There have been too many incidences in their childhood where Damien had sent him up the river to further his own agenda. Now that they work in separate fields, it happens less often, but it hasn’t done anything to increase his trust. While the two of them are identical, Damien opts for the more academic look to fit in with his peers, other than the more relaxed look his brother favors.

Age: 28
Marty is the second oldest sibling, next to the twins, and has always been a bit of a free spirit. Always into the more artistic endeavors, she majored in Art History when she went to college, and got a job working for a gallery in the city. It was a decent job, and she was able to afford an apartment there, but they then moved South to DC, and Marty went with them, so Darren doesn’t see her as often as he’d like.
Marty has an intense love of music, even more so than art, which she shares with her brother. She’ll listen to almost everything you put in front of her, as long as there’s some kind of point to the song. It disqualifies most rap/hip-hop artists, but she’ll give everything a go at least once. Darren’s a bit more old school, preferring more classic artists, but their guilty pleasures both lie in the realm of doo-whop. Marty is probably the sibling that Darren is closest to out of his entire family, aside from maybe Robin, but he sees himself more as Robin’s surrogate father than her brother. Which can lead to some very awkward conversations between them.

Lauren was the rebellious wild child of the family. Everyone was amazed that she still managed to maintain decent grades through high school and college when she spent most of the time partying with her friends. She majored in Communications, and when she graduated, started working for a PR firm in the city. She works in health communication, and spends a lot of her time doing that, but still finds time to have a good time. She claims its about time management, but no one really knows how it works.
Lauren is also the sibling Darren gets along with the least. He’s as overprotective a big brother as they come, and when she started dressing a little sexier, he started flipping out. Once he started flipping out, she started doing other things to piss him off as well, and it soon escalated into the full out war that it is today. Lauren can be brutal, sometimes bordering on abusive towards her brother, and it’s the only sibling she does it to, mostly because she is the one he sees the most.
